Wiggins leads CLE course for covered entities and business associates on HIPAA Security Rule compliance and HITECH breach requirements
August 3, 2016

Kevin Wiggins, special counsel in Saul Ewing’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice and the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice, joins Shawn Melito, a management consultant at NPC, Inc., to present a three-hour CLE course, “Cybersecurity for Covered Entities and Business Associates: The HIPAA Security Rule and HITECH Breach Requirements,” at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh.

Kevin and Shawn will present a framework for complying with the HIPAA Security Rule, including methodologies for adopting policies, performing a risk analysis, preparing a risk management plan, and preparing a data breach response plan. They will review the requirements of HITECH and address the logistics of implementing a breach response in real world scenarios, as well as the potential costs and risks associated with a breach. They will also address terms that should be negotiated in business associate agreements.

Although not required, attendees should have at least a basic understanding of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. The presentation is offered by the college through the 2016 Pennsylvania CLE Summer Evening Program. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and takes place at the college’s North Campus, 8701 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
