Energy Generation

Power generation in the United States is in a state of flux.  Traditional energy sources such as coal and nuclear are grappling with a combination of aging units, increasingly more stringent regulations and the abundance of low cost natural gas.

Environmentalists opposed to both nuclear and fossil fuels  object to the development and expansion of these resources, including natural gas and its attendant infrastructure.  Meanwhile, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar continue to develop, and are helped by favorable environmental and economic policies.  Nonetheless, renewables are confronting their own technology and siting obstacles, especially on the utility scale.  On all fronts, operators are facing challenges complying with existing requirements and planning for compliance with stringent new requirements, and investors are looking to maintain value of existing generating assets and to acquire value in new projects.  Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr’s energy lawyers know the industry and understand the regulatory requirements in which it operates.

We have considerable experience helping our clients successfully meet their compliance obligations and fend off threats, whether it be regulatory compliance at a coal fired station, permitting new natural gas fired power plants, development of wind and solar projects, or third party challenges to government issued permits.  Our energy project experience includes assisting clients in obtaining federal, state and local environmental permits and approvals.
