Armon quoted in article on changes in physician employment contracts
Bruce Armon, Partner and chair of Saul Ewing’s Health Care Practice, is quoted in this article, which discusses trends in physician contract agreements in hospitals, health systems and large practices. In the article Bruce discusses contract elements including uniformity and restrictive covenants.
In terms of flexibility Bruce notes that, “as organizations grow, they may develop more robust employment agreements and be inclined to offer less flexibility. They’re essentially saying, ‘We have several hundred physicians signing this agreement, Dr. Smith, and, respectfully, you will be treated in the same manner as everybody else.’”
Bruce also weighs in on the use of restrictive covenants such as non-compete agreements saying, “employers want to protect their business interests, and you, the physician, want to ensure that there is enough flexibility that you won’t need to uproot yourself and family should there be a change of circumstances. And that can be a fine balancing line.”
