Hal Morris receives favorable finding for client from IARDC
July 2, 2014

Chicago Partner Hal Morris received a favorable finding for a client from the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (IARDC) after a disciplinary complaint was filed against a member of our client’s human resources department. The complaint asserted that one of our client’s employees practiced law without the proper authority. This individual passed the Pennsylvania Bar and become licensed in Pennsylvania. However, he did not actively practice law and placed his license in inactive status.

Nonetheless, a disgruntled ex-employee that the individual had been forced to terminate asserted that he both indicated he was an attorney and gave legal advice regarding rights concerning the termination. Hal responded with information that this individual was aware of his status, knew that he could not practice law in Illinois or elsewhere, had in place procedures to explain his status and, therefore, did not give legal advice. The IARDC closed the investigation file without any adverse finding against the client after completing its investigation.
