Jared Gillman represents developers, private owners, general contractors, subcontractors and municipalities in matters involving construction law as well as clients across numerous industries in commercial litigation. The depth of his understanding of issues affecting the construction industry is reflected in  his certification by the Florida Bar as having special knowledge, skills and proficiency in the area of construction law. Fewer than 1 percent of Florida attorneys have this certification. Jared's work as a litigator is also informed by the trial experience he gained from serving for two years as an assistant state attorney for the 19th Judicial Circuit of Florida. While working with the State Attorney's Office, he served as first chair on 18 jury trials and managed an active docket of over 100 felony cases.

Experience

Construction Law

Jared's experience in matters involving construction law includes drafting construction and design professional contracts, litigation, licensing issues and bid protests. He also prepares liens and bond claims, untangles payment disputes and prepares notices to owners.

Select representations include:

A South Florida municipality in a federal lawsuit pursuing claims involving extensive delay, construction defect, and design defects, resulting in a multi-million dollar settlement in favor of the municipality
A private owner in negotiating construction and design contracts, and analyzing insurance issues for the construction of a $12 million+ residential construction project
A developer in responding to multiple Ch. 558 notices of defects on luxury condominium developments
A condominium association in preparation of multiple construction and design professional contracts for capital improvements to a luxury high rise condominium building
A developer in the drafting of form contracts for use in luxury home construction
A large window contractor in a lien claim against a home owner on a custom residential project, resulting in payment in full to the contractor
A contractor in the successful negotiation of the dismissal of permit violations on a commercial construction project
Commercial Litigation

Jared also has experience in handling disputes between businesses, and claims on behalf of homeowner's and condominium associations.  His commercial litigation experience includes commercial torts and contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, and commercial debt cases.

A large Florida property management limited liability corporation in the successful defense of a lawsuit alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act
A condominium association in the foreclosure of a lien due to owner's failure to pay association dues
A homeowner's association in the prosecution of claims due to owner's failure to follow the community's architectural guidelines
A Texas limited partnership in the successful defense of and dismissal of a lawsuit alleging tortious interference with an advantageous business relationship, based upon complex jurisdictional grounds
